Creating Your Own Spa Sanctuary at Home

Creating Your Own Spa Sanctuary at Home

The moment, usually just before the day begins or ends, when the bathroom becomes something more than a room. Away from distraction, surrounded by warmth and stillness, the body remembers how to slow down.

I'm a big believer that, you don't need to book a retreat to find it. With intention and a few considered choices, your bathroom can become that place.

Begin with Stillness

The first step to a spa like bathroom is a decision to treat your time with intention. The shower isn't just functional. The bath isn't just for getting clean.

Begin by clearing visual noise. A decluttered surface signals to your nervous system that this is a place of rest. Keep only what you love and use.

Add Warmth and Texture

The power of texture and materials to your space can sometimes be overlooked. The weight of a thick towel, the softness of a robe waiting on a hook. These sensory details are what make a space feel intentional.

In your own bathroom, look for opportunities to introduce natural materials: linen, timber, ceramic, concrete. Together, they create an environment that feels curated rather than assembled.

The perfect Piece

If there's one piece that transforms a bathroom from functional to considered, it's a stool.

In ancient bathhouses, seating was central not an afterthought. It invited you to pause and be present. The Chapter One Stool carries that same philosophy into the modern home. Architecturally inspired and designed with the bathroom in mind, it offers a place to rest a towel, set down a candle, or simply sit while the steam rises around you.

Available in four quietly beautiful colourways Sage, Mousse, Cannoli Cream and Desert Sand the Chapter One Stool is designed to be intentional in your space. It's the kind of piece you don't notice until it's gone.

Make it intentional

The difference between a routine and a ritual is attention. A routine is something you get through. A ritual is something you're present for.

Try this: before you step into the shower, light a candle. Place it on your stool beside your soap or face washer. Let the act of arranging these things be the beginning of the ritual a signal to your mind that this time is yours.

After bathing, take a moment to sit. Wrap yourself in a towel and simply be still for sixty seconds and although it sounds small it can have a big impact on the rest of your day.

Layered lighting

Harsh overhead lighting is both unflattering and makes it feel more like a doctors waiting room. If you can, layer your lighting: a warm globe beside the mirror, a candle on the stool. The goal is to move away from the clinical and toward the contemplative.

Even a single candle changes everything.

In the smallest room..

The bathroom is where you begin and where you return. It deserves the same care and consideration you'd give any other space in your home.

The Chapter One Stool was designed as a place for things, a place to pause, A piece that says: this space is worth it.
